Botswana president meets senior Chinese official to strengthen bilateral relations
Botswana’s President Duma Boko held discussions on Monday with Shao Hong, Vice-Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), in the country’s capital.
During the meeting, Shao Hong conveyed warm greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping, emphasizing China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Botswana.
Shao highlighted that China values its relationship with the southern African nation, supports the governance initiatives of Botswana’s new administration, and is eager to deepen traditional friendship while maximizing cooperative potential.
“China is ready to work with Botswana to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), jointly advance modernization, and contribute to building an enduring China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era,” Shao stated.
He also shared insights into the outcomes of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
President Boko, in response, expressed gratitude for the cordial message from President Xi and extended his warm regards.
He noted that China’s decision to send a high-level delegation shortly after the formation of Botswana’s new government underscores the strong support and mutual respect between the two countries.
Boko reaffirmed Botswana’s adherence to the One-China Principle and expressed a commitment to strengthening practical cooperation in various sectors.
He highlighted the importance of maintaining their long-standing friendship and elevating bilateral relations to new heights.
During their visit, Shao Hong and the CPPCC delegation also engaged with key figures, including the Speaker of the National Assembly and other senior Botswana officials, further reinforcing ties between the two nations.
