A violent raid in the village of Marégourou, located in the Bori district of N’Dali commune, ended in tragedy over the weekend. In the early hours between Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September, around ten armed men stormed the home of a local cattle dealer.
According to local reports, the dealer resisted the attack fiercely. During the confrontation, he was able to neutralize one of the assailants and injure several others. “While trying to flee, the attackers opened fire,” a source cited by Fraternité Fm said.
Tragically, the dealer’s wife was killed in the incident.
No material goods were reported stolen during the raid.
The attack has prompted a swift response from authorities.
Law enforcement officers were immediately dispatched to the village, and an investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Local sources suggest that the cattle dealer had previously survived a similar attack, indicating that he may be a specific target of these violent individuals.
“This new episode of violence against the same person suggests that he is particularly targeted,” a resident explained. Authorities are now working to determine the motivation behind the repeated attacks.
This latest incident underscores a growing concern over security in rural areas of Benin, where armed robberies and targeted attacks on livestock traders have become increasingly reported.
Residents have called for heightened protection and vigilance, fearing further attacks in the region.
The investigation is ongoing, with police urging anyone with information about the raid to come forward. Meanwhile, the local community mourns the loss of the dealer’s wife and continues to grapple with the shock of the brutal assault.
