The China International Import Expo (CIIE), held annually in Shanghai since its inception in 2018, has evolved into a pivotal platform for nations and businesses eager to access the lucrative Chinese market.
This year, Benin is once again making its presence felt at the CIIE, showcasing its agricultural expertise and flagship products.
Under the banner “CHOOSE BENIN,” eight Beninese companies are exhibiting renowned products, including the unique Pain de Sucre pineapple, cashew nuts, and a range of honey and shea-based products.
These exhibitors, supported by the Investment and Export Promotion Agency (APIEx), aim to enhance the visibility of the “Made in Benin” label and capitalize on the burgeoning opportunities within the Chinese market.
Since 2016, Benin has positioned itself as a dynamic economic player in Africa, characterized by an open and diversified economy.
The country boasts robust growth rates, bolstered by its agricultural sector and the transit trade through the Port of Cotonou, a key hub for landlocked nations in West Africa.
Notably, the Beninese economy recorded a growth rate of 7.2% in 2021, highlighting its resilience in the post-COVID-19 landscape.
Among the eight participating companies are producers and exporters specializing in pineapples, natural cosmetics, honey, and agri-food products.
The National Federation of Pineapple Producers of Benin (FENAPAB) represents over 2,865 farmers and supports their development through access to inputs, financing, and training.
Other exhibitors include Fruits Tillou, a horticulture specialist, and Natura, known for its shea-based cosmetic products. Companies like Les Triangles and API Services Monde are also presenting their expertise in sustainable beekeeping.
Over the course of the six-day CIIE, the Beninese exhibitors are eager to forge lasting partnerships with both Chinese and international stakeholders, further contributing to the growth of Benin’s export sector.
Minister of Industry and Commerce, Alimatou Shadiya Assouman, and APIEx Director General, Siaka Chekete, emphasize that Benin’s participation signifies the country’s commitment to exploring new commercial horizons and promoting its products on the global stage.
“The participation of Benin at CIIE 2024 represents an exceptional opportunity to showcase ‘Made in Benin’ in one of the world’s most dynamic markets.
Through our stand, we highlight our national champions, true ambassadors of our know-how.
These entrepreneurs embody the excellence of Beninese production, presenting products that reflect the diverse riches of our country,” declared the ministerial authority.
