
As the new school year begins, Member of Parliament Gafari Adéchokan has once again extended his annual support to students from families facing economic hardship.
On Sunday, 21 September 2025, over 200 schoolchildren from Cotonou’s 1st and 2nd arrondissements received school kits during ceremonies held in Tokplégbé and Sainte-Cécile. The events drew large crowds, quickly filling the designated areas.
According to the organising committee, more than 1,500 kits will be distributed throughout the 15th electoral district this year. Adimi Tidjani, president of the Crucible of Friends of Hon.
Gafari Adéchokan, praised the MP’s ongoing commitment at the start of each academic year, noting the financial challenges many parents continue to face. Souhouratou Lawani, president of the Coastal Women’s Development Committee, encouraged the beneficiaries to honour this support with strong academic performance.
While the initiative had a clear social purpose, it also carried political undertones. Georges Kinyidé, coordinator of the Democrats Party in the 1st arrondissement, pledged a significant mobilisation of party supporters ahead of upcoming elections. Hon.
Denise Mahougnon, wife of Hounkanrin, highlighted the role of women in the electoral process, stating, “The first victory begins on January 11, 2026, before the presidential election.”
MP Adéchokan himself took the occasion to deliver a message to his supporters. Confident in his camp’s future success, he declared, “God has already written that the Democrats will take power in 2026.” He also cautioned against complacency, adding, “We must wake up and not rest on our laurels.”
In his address, the parliamentarian criticised the high cost of living, the elimination of free education measures, and mounting pressure on producers. He emphasised that defending citizens’ votes is a shared responsibility.
Through this dual gesture—supporting education while reinforcing political mobilisation—MP Gafari Adéchokan reaffirms his presence as a grassroots leader and signals his active preparation for the electoral contests of 2026.
