A devastating fire tore through a home in the Tassi Tedji Bani Zoumbou district of Malanville on Monday, July 28, leaving a local family with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
The blaze, which erupted between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., gutted the property, destroying virtually all their possessions. Remarkably, no casualties were reported.
At the time of the incident, the parents were away, and only their children were inside the house. The children were unharmed but unable to contain the flames as the fire quickly engulfed the residence. The family’s bedroom was completely destroyed, along with essential household items including two motorcycles, two refrigerators, and two motor pumps, in addition to numerous personal belongings.
Speaking to Sota FM, a local radio station, the head of the household described the ordeal as a total loss. He suspects a short circuit may have triggered the blaze, though authorities have not yet confirmed the cause. “We have lost everything, we need support,” he said, issuing a heartfelt plea for assistance from the wider community.
While the absence of injuries brings a measure of relief, the scale of material destruction leaves the family in a state of despair. With no home, no transport, and no means to recover quickly, they are now relying on the compassion and solidarity of others to begin rebuilding their lives.
The incident has shocked residents of Malanville and raised renewed concerns over electrical safety and emergency preparedness in residential areas. For this family, spared from injury but devastated by loss, the path ahead remains uncertain — but their plea has been made, and now the community must respond.
