Presidential hopeful Daniel Edah, recently declared as a candidate for the 2026 election and a new member of the opposition Democrats (LD) party, has publicly denounced what he describes as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday, September 29, Edah detailed an approach he received on September 7 from a woman claiming to have an “impressive career” in beauty pageants.
According to Edah, she sought a private meeting to discuss a “personal” matter, but refused to provide any details beforehand. “Her response was clear: she only wanted to discuss it one-on-one, without giving the slightest insight,” he wrote. Concerned by the lack of transparency, Edah said he ended the conversation on September 13.
The politician alleges that since this interaction, efforts have been made to implicate him in a compromising situation.
He condemned what he called a “diversionary effort” intended to undermine his presidential ambitions and distract from substantive political debate.
“I am sharing this today to tell them, very simply: don’t waste any more of your time,” he said, urging the adoption of a “dignified, responsible and forward-looking” approach to politics.
This statement comes at a pivotal moment in Edah’s political trajectory. Having long declared his intention to contest the 2026 presidential election, he recently formalized his affiliation with Les Démocrates, strengthening his position within the opposition landscape.
Observers note that the timing of these allegations and Edah’s public response could influence both his campaign strategy and public perception.
By confronting the situation openly, Edah aims to maintain credibility while highlighting the importance of focusing on political priorities rather than personal attacks.
As Benin approaches the 2026 election cycle, the developments surrounding Daniel Edah illustrate the heightened stakes and tensions within the country’s evolving political scene, where emerging candidates are navigating both scrutiny and attempts at manipulation.
