The President of Algeria’s High Council for Youth, Mustapha Haïdaoui, welcomed Prudence Ngwenya, Director of the Women, Gender, and Youth Division at the African Union Commission, for high-level discussions aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in youth development.
According to official sources, the meeting, held on Sunday, formed part of Ms Ngwenya’s official visit to Algeria. The two sides explored avenues for stronger collaboration between the AU Commission and Algeria’s High Council for Youth, particularly in the exchange of best practices in youth policymaking.
“This visit served as an opportunity to deepen pathways of cooperation and partnership between the High Council for Youth and the African Union Commission, and to strengthen the exchange of expertise in youth policies, reflecting Algeria’s ongoing commitment to youth issues at the continental level,” the statement read.
The talks also highlighted Algeria’s initiatives to empower young people and involve them in public life and policy formulation.
The Algerian delegation presented the role of the High Council as a key advisory body that upholds the principles of youth participation and supports national decision-making processes.
Ms Ngwenya praised Algeria’s extensive efforts to support its youth, particularly commending the successful organisation of the fourth edition of the African Youth Forum, held in November 2024 in Algiers.
She also recognised the High Council’s pivotal role in positioning Algeria as a leading contributor to the African youth development ecosystem.
The visit, officials noted, is part of a broader effort to activate youth diplomacy and expand regional partnerships. It underscores Algeria’s strategic commitment to fostering inclusive platforms for African youth and strengthening its ties with the African Union through sustained dialogue and cooperation.
