Authorities in Angola have arrested a 34-year-old man after seizing more than 2.7 kilograms of cocaine at Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport. The arrest took place on Saturday, August 23, as the suspect arrived on a flight from Guarulhos, Brazil.
The Angolan Tax and Customs Police, working with other security agencies, intercepted the man during routine checks. According to officials, the suspect had concealed 2.731 kilograms of cocaine in his underwear.
The substance was identified during inspection, tested, and weighed to confirm its contents.
Law enforcement officials stated that the offense falls under Article 4, No. 1, of Law 3/99 of August 6 on Narcotics. The man has been placed in custody while legal proceedings are underway.
“The substance was detected during a standard control procedure and immediately subjected to further testing,” authorities confirmed.
They added that the ongoing investigation aims to determine if the case is linked to wider trafficking networks between South America and Angola.
This seizure underscores the continuing efforts of Angolan security forces to clamp down on drug trafficking through major transport hubs.
Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport has been a key focus of these operations, given its strategic connections to high-risk routes.
Officials have reiterated their commitment to tightening border controls and enhancing international cooperation to curb the flow of illegal substances into the country.
The incident is the latest in a series of high-profile interceptions reflecting a growing vigilance in Angola’s anti-narcotics enforcement, as authorities intensify their response to the challenges of cross-border trafficking.
