The Angolan Investment Bank (BAI) has issued a formal denial of allegations circulating on social media that its Executive Committee President, Luís Lélis, was notified by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to provide testimony in connection with a criminal investigation.
In a statement released on Friday, the bank described the claims as “completely false,” asserting that neither its CEO nor any other representative had been contacted by the PGR or “any criminal investigation body” regarding the case in question or any other matter.
The bank denounced what it called the “abusive use of the name of the bank and its Chairman of the Executive Committee in supposedly newsworthy publications,” accusing those behind the reports of attempting to “misinform and undermine the good name of the institution.”
BAI’s Communications and Brand Management Department reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to cooperating with the media while urging adherence to professional standards. “We remain available to collaborate with the press, provided reporting is conducted with accuracy and responsibility,” the statement read. However, it condemned “texts and titles that attempt to confuse and denigrate the institution, for unknown purposes.”
The statement follows a wave of images and messages shared across social media in recent days, which spread unverified accusations about the bank’s leadership. BAI reiterated that such claims were baseless and damaging, emphasizing that its operations remain fully compliant with national laws and regulations.
The bank’s leadership called on the public to disregard the circulating content, urging media outlets and online users to verify information before disseminating claims that could “harm reputations and mislead public opinion.”
