President João Lourenço of Angola has appointed Lucas Manuel João Quilundo as an adviser judge to the Constitutional Court, according to a statement released by the Presidential Press Secretary.
Quilundo, previously a commissioner and spokesperson for the National Electoral Commission (CNE), fills a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Júlia de Fátima Leite Ferreira earlier this month.
His appointment aligns with the constitutional seven-year non-renewable term for adviser judges on the court, as outlined in the presidential decree.
The Constitutional Court, a pivotal institution in Angola’s judicial system, consists of 11 advisory judges.
These members include esteemed legal experts and magistrates, with four of them directly appointed by the President of the Republic, including the court’s president.
This transition underscores the continuity of leadership within one of Angola’s most critical judicial bodies, which plays a vital role in ensuring the rule of law and constitutional governance.
