Algeria has intensified its efforts against armed terrorist groups, underscoring the country’s commitment to safeguarding its population and maintaining national security.
Recent operations in Tébessa highlight a determined strategy to dismantle pockets of insurgency and prevent threats from gaining traction.
On Tuesday evening, units of the National People’s Army (ANP) carried out a targeted operation in the commune of Tlidjene.
According to the Algerian Ministry of Defense, the intervention resulted in the neutralization of six armed terrorists and the seizure of a substantial arsenal, including six Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, ammunition, and other combat equipment.
While the numbers are significant, officials emphasised the symbolic importance of the operation in demonstrating that even small terrorist cells cannot operate unchecked.
The following day, Army General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the ANP, visited the area alongside the commander of the 5th Military Region. “We congratulate the troops, salute their courage, and reiterate the confidence that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has in them,” he said, highlighting the state’s recognition of every military success as proof of its commitment to security.
Officials stress that this operation forms part of a sustained campaign rather than an isolated event.
Defense Ministry data indicate that 35 terrorists were neutralized in the first half of 2025, with an additional 16 eliminated between July and September.
More than 200 individuals linked to support networks have been arrested, and hundreds of weapons of various calibers seized.
These figures reflect a long-term strategy designed to disrupt logistical chains and restrict terrorist mobility.
In discussions with soldiers, General Chanegriha underscored the importance of vigilance and persistence. “Our enemy knows how to conceal itself and exploit rough terrain,” he said.
“As in a game of chess, each offensive move aims to limit the enemy’s options, closing the available squares until it leads to the inevitable checkmate.”
This approach demonstrates Algeria’s ongoing commitment to counter-terrorism, combining military precision, strategic planning, and the consistent targeting of networks to safeguard the nation from evolving threats.
