Algerian Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and the City, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, met on Thursday with Ambassador Salma Malika Haddadi, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the housing sector across the African continent.
The meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Algiers, occurred on the sidelines of the 44th session of the Shelter Africa Development Bank, hosted at the El Aurassi Hotel.
The high-level talks focused on opportunities for collaboration, particularly in exporting Algeria’s vast expertise and materials in housing development to other African nations.
“Algeria has accumulated extensive experience in the execution of large-scale housing projects, and this know-how can be shared to benefit other countries in Africa,” said Belaribi during the discussions.
He emphasized that Algeria’s model could help meet the growing demand for urban housing across the continent.
The dialogue also spotlighted Algeria’s strong industrial base in the construction sector.
Belaribi underscored the quality and competitive advantage of Algerian building materials, expressing confidence in their potential to penetrate and serve the rapidly expanding African markets.
Both parties agreed on the necessity of establishing new frameworks for technical cooperation, knowledge sharing, and the promotion of intra-African trade in construction-related industries.
Ambassador Haddadi welcomed the initiative, noting that such partnerships align with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which seeks to boost regional integration and sustainable development.
As the demand for housing surges across Africa due to population growth and rapid urbanization, Algeria’s offer to export its housing expertise and construction materials could serve as a timely and strategic contribution to the continent’s development efforts.
