Algeria’s ambassador to Italy, Mohamed Khalifi, has officially welcomed the country’s national petanque team following their notable performance at the World Championship in Rome.
The tournament, held from September 18 to 21 in Italy’s capital, saw the Algerian team achieve impressive results across multiple categories.
The women’s singles team secured a podium finish, claiming third place, while the women’s duets and mixed duets teams placed sixth and eighth, respectively.
During the reception, Ambassador Khalifi commended the athletes for their dedication and commitment to representing Algeria on the global stage. “Your performance demonstrates not only technical skill but also sportsmanship and discipline, qualities that reflect positively on Algeria in international forums,” he said.
The ambassador emphasized the importance of nurturing national talent and supporting athletes who bring recognition to Algeria through international competitions. He encouraged the team to continue striving for excellence and to serve as ambassadors of Algerian culture and resilience through sport.
For the athletes, the championship offered both competition and an opportunity to showcase Algeria’s growing presence in the international petanque community. Their achievements highlight the country’s investment in diverse sporting disciplines beyond the more widely known arenas of football and athletics.
The reception also provided a platform to discuss future participation and support for the team, underscoring the Algerian government’s commitment to fostering sports development and promoting national pride through international representation.
By celebrating these accomplishments, Algeria signals its intention to continue cultivating competitive excellence and reinforcing the role of sport as a unifying and inspirational force within the country.
