The agreement was signed in Rome by Sid Ali Zerrouki, Algeria’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications, and Adolfo Urso, Italy’s Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy. It was concluded as part of the official state visit by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who co-chaired the fifth high-level Algerian-Italian Government Summit.
According to a statement from Algeria’s Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, the MoU is designed to enhance collaboration in developing communications infrastructure, particularly in international bandwidth and undersea cable networks.
It also focuses on improving postal and telecom services for citizens of both nations and ensuring service continuity in all conditions.
“The cooperation will also involve capacity-building through technical workshops and training sessions for professionals from both sides,” the ministry noted.
The agreement also sets the stage for stronger partnerships between telecom operators in both countries to support international interconnection, mobile data services, cloud computing, 5G solutions, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
It further includes provisions for intensified cooperation in critical areas such as data security, cybersecurity, radio communications, spectrum management, and innovation.
Speaking during the meeting with his Italian counterpart, Minister Zerrouki hailed the agreement as a transformative step in Algerian-Italian relations.
“We are witnessing a qualitative shift in our bilateral ties, moving from a traditional partnership to a future-oriented collaboration based on a shared vision and a clear roadmap to build a connected, secure, and innovative future,” he said.
Zerrouki emphasized that in an era where sovereignty extends beyond borders to include digital infrastructure, data, and technology, the Algeria-Italy partnership is becoming a model of digital integration and technological cooperation.
He concluded by reaffirming Algeria’s commitment to implementing the terms of the MoU through concrete, actionable steps to ensure mutual benefits for both nations.
