Algeria and Canada deepen ties to growing Algerian diaspora

In a fresh diplomatic push to strengthen ties with its citizens abroad, Algeria has opened new channels of cooperation with Canada, focusing on support for the Algerian diaspora.
Sofiane Chaieb, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, received Canada’s Ambassador to Algeria, Robyn Lynn Witolfer, on Saturday in Algiers.
According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting explored pathways to deepen bilateral cooperation in areas concerning Algerian nationals residing in Canada.
The discussion underscored the importance of the Algerian community in Canada and praised their growing contributions to both societies.
“The positive contributions of our diaspora in Canada were acknowledged, along with the high regard and respect their talents and achievements continue to earn,” the ministry stated.
During the talks, both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral consultation mechanisms in order to empower the Algerian diaspora as a constructive bridge of collaboration between the two nations.
The goal, officials noted, is to ensure mutual benefit through reinforced partnerships and dialogue.
This meeting marks another step in Algeria’s evolving strategy to harness the potential of its global community and support its citizens abroad through stronger international cooperation.
As both countries continue to recognise the value of people-to-people connections, the talks reaffirm the role of diaspora diplomacy in shaping modern foreign relations.
