In a recent meeting in Algiers, US Senior Advisor to the President for Africa, Arab Affairs, and the Middle East, Massad Boulos, expressed strong American interest in expanding cooperation with Algeria in three key energy sectors: hydrocarbons, renewable energy, and mineral resource exploitation.
Speaking with Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, Boulos underscored the potential for American companies to invest both nationally and continentally.
According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Energy, the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral ties, particularly within the hydrocarbon and renewable energy sectors.
Minister Arkab highlighted the importance of collaboration between Algerian firms and US counterparts in the hydrocarbon industry. He praised existing partnerships between Algeria’s state oil company Sonatrach and major US players such as Chevron and ExxonMobil, which have contributed to the country’s energy development.
The meeting also spotlighted the successful collaboration between Algeria’s electricity company Sonelgaz and General Electric, exemplified by the “GEAT” factory in Batna — the first of its kind in Africa dedicated to locally manufacturing energy equipment.
Arkab detailed the sector’s strategic development plan aimed at boosting investment, increasing oil and gas production, and driving industrial transformation. He placed particular emphasis on advancing petrochemical industries, adopting technological innovations, and reducing emissions.
Renewable energy cooperation also featured prominently, with discussions covering hydrogen development, wind energy projects, energy storage solutions, and local manufacturing of related equipment.
Furthermore, Minister Arkab reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to fully harnessing its mining resources. He invited American investors to capitalize on opportunities in mineral exploitation and transformation, stressing partnerships grounded in knowledge transfer, workforce training, and maximizing local resource value.
This dialogue between Algeria and the United States marks a promising step toward deepening energy sector cooperation with a focus on sustainable growth and mutual benefit.
