Air Algérie halts Amman flights citing escalating regional security concerns

Algeria’s national carrier, Air Algérie, has announced the immediate suspension of all flights to and from Amman, Jordan, amid mounting regional security concerns.
The decision, which takes effect immediately and applies until further notice, was communicated in an official statement issued by the airline on Friday.
“For security reasons, it has been decided to cancel all flights to and from the Jordanian capital, Amman, until further notice,” the airline stated.
Air Algérie did not elaborate on the specific nature of the threat, but the move comes as tensions escalate across parts of the Middle East, prompting heightened alertness from regional governments and aviation authorities.
The airline expressed regret for the disruption caused by the suspension and assured passengers that it would provide timely updates.
“The situation is beyond our control,” the company said, adding that it “pledges to keep its passengers informed of any developments as soon as possible.”
While no official explanation has been offered about the security context behind the suspension, analysts suggest the decision may be linked to the ripple effects of heightened geopolitical volatility, particularly as several airlines operating in the region have taken precautionary measures in recent weeks.
The Jordanian capital, long considered a relatively stable node in an otherwise turbulent region, has recently seen increased diplomatic activity and public concern amid wider regional instability.
As of now, Jordanian authorities have not issued any public statements in response to the Air Algérie announcement.
The suspension adds to growing uncertainty for passengers travelling between North Africa and the Middle East.
Passengers holding tickets for the cancelled routes are advised to contact the airline’s customer service for rebooking or refund options.
This development underscores the growing impact of regional security dynamics on civil aviation, with airlines increasingly prioritizing passenger safety in an environment marked by unpredictability.
