The handover took place in the presence of key officials, including Youssouf Sanogo, the interim deputy director of the Prime Minister’s office.

“I did my best to serve the Malian people. If I succeeded, it was because of your support,” Choguel Maïga said, addressing his team.
He urged them to maintain their dedication under the new leadership, adding, “Always prioritize Mali in everything you do.
The mechanisms are in place—thank you, and I wish you courage in the days ahead.”
He emphasized the importance of unity and vigilance, particularly regarding the Sahel Alliance (AES), warning, “Enemies are watching.”
In response, Sanogo expressed gratitude on behalf of the team, saying, “Thank you for all you’ve done for Mali.
Please forgive any mistakes we may have made. We will continue to serve Mali with unwavering commitment.”
Political Turmoil Precedes the Transition
The change in leadership follows escalating tensions between Choguel Maïga and Mali’s ruling military authorities.
Days before his dismissal, the outgoing Prime Minister openly criticized the military leadership for sidelining him in critical state matters and failing to adhere to the transition timetable.
His removal was announced on the evening of November 20, 2024, and Abdoulaye Maïga was named his successor just hours later.
The swift transition also included the formation of a new government, which largely retained key figures from the previous administration.
