In a celebration filled with pride and national spirit, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló welcomed the triumphant FC Pelundo team to the Presidential Palace today, following their unprecedented win of the 2025 Guinea Cup.
The players, affectionately known as the “Lobos de Pelundo” (Pelundo Wolves), proudly presented the prestigious trophy to the Head of State, marking a historic milestone not only for the team but also for the broader Pelundo community.
This is the first time FC Pelundo has secured the Guinea Cup title, making them only the second team from the country’s northern region to achieve this feat.
“This is more than a victory for a football team—it is a symbol of unity, determination, and the rising potential of our northern communities,” said President Embaló during the meeting, visibly moved by the team’s accomplishment.
The visit, which took place at the Palácio da República, was an emotional one. The team expressed heartfelt gratitude to the President, acknowledging his consistent support and the influential role his leadership has played in the development of sports across the nation.
As an honorary son of Pelundo himself, President Embaló emphasized the personal significance of the win.
He praised the team’s perseverance and discipline, describing the victory as “a source of immense pride for every citizen of Guinea-Bissau.”
“This win echoes far beyond the football pitch. It is a message of hope and progress,” he stated.
The achievement by FC Pelundo has sparked celebrations across the region and is being hailed as a turning point for regional sports development.
With the backing of national leadership and a surge in local enthusiasm, the team’s victory is expected to inspire a new generation of athletes from all corners of the country.
