President El-Sisi: Rafah crossing requires cooperation from both sides to operate smoothly

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has stressed that the operation of the Rafah border crossing is not solely dependent on Egypt, but also requires coordination with the other side inside the Gaza Strip.
Speaking in a televised address on the latest developments in Gaza, President El-Sisi clarified the nature and limitations of border control in the region. “The Rafah crossing is designated for the passage of individuals, and its operation is not determined by the Egyptian side alone, but also by the authorities on the other side within Gaza,” he stated.
The President highlighted that Gaza is connected to more than five different crossings, either through Palestinian territories or via Egyptian land.
However, he made it clear that from the Egyptian side, only two crossings are currently in operation: Rafah and Kerem Abu Salem.
In his remarks, El-Sisi called for the immediate opening of all crossings into Gaza to allow humanitarian aid to enter the besieged territory without delay. “We have a massive volume of Egyptian aid trucks ready to move into Gaza,” he said, emphasizing Egypt’s readiness to provide urgent relief if conditions allow.
El-Sisi’s comments come at a time of renewed concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, where access to food, medical supplies, and basic necessities remains critically limited due to ongoing border restrictions and conflict-related disruptions.
The President reiterated Egypt’s continued advocacy for facilitating aid deliveries and for collaborative efforts to ease the suffering of the civilian population in the enclave.
