President Faustin Archange Touadéra has been officially confirmed as the United Hearts Movement (MCU) candidate for the upcoming December 2025 presidential election.
The announcement was made on Saturday, July 26, during the closing ceremony of the MCU’s 2nd Ordinary Congress, held at the Bangui Omnisport Stadium.
Dubbed “Big Brother United” by his supporters, President Touadéra was the central figure of the ceremony, which was chaired by National Executive Secretary Simplice Mathieu Sarandji.
More than 500 delegates, representing the country’s seven regions and diaspora communities across Europe, Africa, and the Americas, attended the two-day gathering. Diplomats, traditional leaders, party activists, and thousands of supporters were also present.
The congress focused on two central issues: the revision and validation of the MCU’s foundational texts and the formal endorsement of Touadéra’s candidacy for the 2025 presidential race.
Proceedings began with a prayer, renditions of the national and MCU anthems, and artistic performances, before Sarandji opened with a keynote speech thanking allied parties from Russia, Rwanda, China, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea.
He credited the MCU’s growth—now boasting over two million members since its founding in 2018—to the dedication of its activists.
In his inaugural address, President Touadéra expressed gratitude to God and acknowledged the trust placed in him by the party’s highest body.
He praised the resilience of MCU members in defending constitutional values and thanked political allies, grassroots leaders, youth and women’s representatives, the diaspora, and traditional authorities for their support.
Reflecting on his tenure since 2016, Touadéra highlighted achievements including the restoration of peace and security, the reinforcement of national defense and security forces, payment of salary arrears and pensions, integration of young graduates into public service, improvements in electricity and water distribution, and expansion of health infrastructure.
Answering what he described as “multiple and urgent” appeals from citizens and party members, Touadéra confirmed his decision to seek a first seven-year term under the 7th Republic.
He called for unity—even extending an “outstretched hand” to opposition parties—stressing that national cohesion is vital for peace and development.
Confident of victory, Touadéra declared that the MCU is “fully equipped to win in the first round and secure a strong majority in the National Assembly.” He announced the formation of an inclusive National Campaign Directorate to advance his political and social agenda ahead of the December 28 election.
The congress closed with a rallying call for unity and collective effort to secure a prosperous and peaceful future for the Central African Republic.
