Kenyan Mugithi star Samuel Muchoki, widely known as Samidoh, has been granted a KSh 200,000 anticipatory bail by the High Court, shielding him from imminent arrest over allegations of neglecting his duties as a police officer.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Diana Kavedza at the Kibera High Court, follows claims that the National Police Service (NPS) had issued a warrant for Samidoh’s arrest last month, despite having approved his travel to the United States.
“The court is satisfied that there is a threat to the liberty of the complainant.
Therefore, without protection, the complainant can be arrested and detained contrary to the Constitution,” Justice Kavedza stated.
Samidoh, who is attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Police Unit (ASTPU) in Gilgil, Nakuru County, told the court that he has already submitted a letter of early retirement to the NPS. He claimed that the arrest order was linked not only to accusations of dereliction of duty but also to his outspoken criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“The arrest plan is related to my political statements and my criticism of the government,” he said in his affidavit, arguing that the warrant was unfair given that his leave had been approved by the same authorities pursuing his arrest.
He is accused of failing to report to his Gilgil duty station since 27 May 2025. The respondents named in his petition include the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the National Police Service, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, the Attorney-General, the Commandant of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, and the officer commanding Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Police Station.
The court’s decision offers the musician temporary relief as he navigates his planned departure from the NPS while facing mounting scrutiny over his dual career as an entertainer and a police officer.
