President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has commissioned a new fleet of firefighting equipment, marking a significant step toward modernizing the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) and improving emergency response across the country.
The handover ceremony, held at the Executive Mansion on Tuesday, included the delivery of six modern fire trucks, three water tankers, two operational Jeeps, and ten motorcycles designed for rapid response and public engagement.
The new resources, officials say, will immediately be deployed to fire-prone and underserved areas.
“This is not about vehicles sitting in garages,” President Boakai said during the commissioning.
“These are tools of service—tools that represent our duty to protect every Liberian community from the devastating impact of fire outbreaks. This Government is determined to build a Liberia where citizens feel safe, and institutions are empowered to deliver.”
The initiative forms part of the government’s ARREST Agenda for national development, a broader plan aimed at strengthening essential services and rebuilding key public institutions.
Fire Service Director Col. G. Wasuwah Barvoul, Sr. hailed the development as a historic moment for the LNFS, which has long struggled with resource shortages.
“For too long, we’ve worked with limited resources,” Col. Barvoul said. “Today’s commissioning is not just about vehicles—it’s about restoring confidence in our ability to protect this nation.”
He added that trained personnel are already prepared to operate the new fleet, which will be strategically stationed across Liberia to enhance the service’s operational capacity.
President Boakai also called for heightened professionalism within the LNFS and urged the public to support fire prevention and safety measures, emphasizing that effective firefighting requires collaboration between institutions and the communities they serve.
The acquisition signals the Boakai administration’s ongoing commitment to strengthening critical infrastructure and ensuring that emergency services reach every Liberian citizen, particularly those in vulnerable areas.
