Libya is bracing for a continuation of intense heat across much of its western and southern territories, with sporadic thunderstorms forecast for several areas, according to the latest weather bulletin issued on Wednesday.
While parts of the West Coast will see a slight drop in temperatures accompanied by high humidity, the heat wave gripping northern and southern western regions is expected to persist until the end of the week.
From Ras Jedir to Sirte, including the Al-Jafara Plain and the Nafusa Mountains, skies will remain mostly clear, with scattered clouds developing over mountainous areas that could bring isolated thunderstorms.
Winds will shift from light to moderate northwesterlies during the day to northeasterlies by evening. Maximum temperatures will range between 32°C and 35°C along the coast but soar to between 40°C and 44°C further inland, with hotter conditions predicted tomorrow across most locations.
In the Gulf and Benghazi Plain stretching to Amsaid, skies will remain clear to partly cloudy, with mild to moderate westerly to northwesterly winds. By tomorrow evening, gusts are expected to strengthen over the Green Mountain and parts of the far eastern coastline. Daytime highs will range from 30°C to 37°C, dropping slightly on Thursday in elevated and coastal areas.
For the Al Jufra, Sebha, Ghat, Ghadames, and Al Hamada belt, conditions will remain largely clear, though Ghadames may see intermittent thunderstorms.
Light easterly to northeasterly winds will prevail, while temperatures hover between 40°C and 45°C.
The Al Wahat, Al Sarir, Tazirbu, and Al Kufra zones will experience clear skies, with light northwesterly to northerly breezes and maximum temperatures ranging between 40°C and 43°C.
Meteorologists forecast that the oppressive heat will begin to ease in Libya’s western regions starting Saturday evening. Authorities stress that forecasts are updated every 24 hours and that only the latest updates should be considered reliable.
