Three suspected armed robbers were shot dead by police during an exchange of gunfire in Tema’s Industrial Area in the early hours of Sunday, 20 July 2025.
According to the Tema Regional Command, a patrol unit responded to a distress call at around 2:00 a.m., where approximately ten suspects were attempting to break into a warehouse.
Police reports state that the suspects opened fire as officers arrived, triggering a shootout that left three of the attackers dead at the scene. The remaining suspects fled, with several believed to be injured during the exchange.
Officers recovered a Bruni Mod 92 pistol, a locally manufactured double-barrelled pistol loaded with ammunition, and multiple live cartridges from the scene.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Accra’s Police Hospital for autopsy and identification. Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Authorities have called on hospitals and clinics to report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds, as part of efforts to track down those who escaped.
The incident comes amid heightened security operations in Ghana’s industrial hubs, following a spate of criminal activity targeting commercial facilities. Police say patrols across industrial corridors will continue to be intensified to deter similar attacks.
