Algeria’s Minister of National Education, Dr. Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui, has formally welcomed the national team that represented the country at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), held on Australia’s Sunshine Coast from 10 to 20 July 2025.
During the reception on Monday evening, Dr. Saadaoui congratulated the students for their outstanding efforts and achievements at the prestigious international competition. He praised their commitment and urged them to continue striving for excellence in future events.
The Algerian delegation comprised five students, three of whom earned bronze medals for their performances. The medalists include:
-
Mohamed Iqbal, a second-year mathematics student at Malika Kaid High School in Setif Province.
-
Abdel-Ilah Hammadi, a final-year student specializing in technical and mathematical studies at Abdelhamid Ben Badis High School in M’Sila Province.
-
Abu Al-Qasimi Kian, a second-year mathematics student at Mohand Makhbi Mathematics High School.
Dr. Saadaoui emphasized that the team’s achievements reflect the Ministry of National Education’s ongoing efforts to nurture academic talent as part of a broader strategy to identify and support school elites.
He noted that these efforts align with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision to promote academic excellence, strengthen Algeria’s presence in global educational forums, and foster a culture of ambition and constructive competition among students.
The Minister added that Algeria’s participation and medal wins at the Olympiad underscore the importance of investing in young intellectual talent to bolster the nation’s academic standing on the international stage.
The Sunshine Coast event drew some of the brightest young mathematical minds from across the world, offering Algeria an opportunity to showcase its emerging talents in a highly competitive environment.
