Angola takes helm of lusophone audit dody with pledge to boost oversight and transparency

Luanda – Angola has assumed the rotating presidency of the Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (OISC-CPLP), marking a new chapter in regional efforts to strengthen public accountability.
The formal handover ceremony saw Sebastião Gunza, President of Angola’s Court of Auditors, officially take leadership of the body, which brings together audit institutions from across the Lusophone world. Angola will hold the position for a two-year term.
In his address, Gunza emphasized Angola’s commitment to raising the bar on transparency, financial integrity, and institutional cooperation.
“We intend to work to ensure Angola receives greater recognition and respect in the international context of public finance oversight,” he said.
“We will play an active and committed role in transparency, strengthening public oversight, and sharing experiences among CPLP member states.”
Under Angola’s stewardship, the organization is expected to prioritize a series of reforms aimed at enhancing collaboration and technical capacity across member institutions.
These include coordinated audits on shared issues, specialized training programs, and stronger ties with global audit and oversight bodies.
Gunza highlighted the importance of harnessing collective expertise to improve governance across the CPLP, which includes nations in Africa, South America, Europe, and Asia united by the Portuguese language.
The OISC-CPLP serves as a platform for exchange and innovation in public sector auditing, promoting best practices and accountability mechanisms tailored to the unique political and economic contexts of its member states.
Angola’s leadership role comes at a critical time for the region, as many CPLP countries face increasing scrutiny over public spending, development funding, and institutional transparency.
The presidency marks an opportunity for Angola to not only influence regional policy but also to showcase its evolving audit capabilities on the international stage.
