Maître Akere Muna’s presidential candidacy was officially registered at the headquarters of Cameroon’s electoral commission, Elecam, in Yaoundé.
The submission was made by Professor Prosper Nkou Mvondo, president of the Univers party, which nominated Muna several months ago.
As the 2025 presidential campaign gains momentum, this marks the second formal application filed with Elecam. Professor Nkou Mvondo personally handed over the documents around midday, confirming the party’s commitment to backing one of Cameroon’s most prominent figures in civil society.
Maître Akere Muna, a former president of the Cameroon Bar Association, brings considerable experience and visibility to the race.
This will be his second attempt at the presidency; he initially declared his candidacy in 2018 but later withdrew in favor of opposition leader Maurice Kamto.
“The Univers party is proud to put forward a candidate of such stature and commitment to national progress,” said Professor Nkou Mvondo during the submission. The move signals the party’s serious intent to compete in what is shaping up to be a highly contested election.
Earlier this month, Bertin Kisob, leader of the Cameroon Party for Social Justice, became the first candidate to submit his dossier to Elecam on July 12. With the official deadline for candidate registration set for July 21, the pace is quickening, and more hopefuls are expected to formalize their bids in the coming days.
The unfolding political landscape points to a spirited contest as parties rally behind their candidates, each aiming to shape Cameroon’s future. The Univers party’s endorsement of Akere Muna adds fresh energy to the race, underscoring the increasing complexity and stakes of the 2025 presidential election.
