Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, met with Emanuela Forcella, the newly appointed Director of the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development (AICS), in a bid to deepen collaboration between the two countries.
The meeting, held on July 15, 2025, marked an important step towards enhancing partnership in critical areas such as rural development, food security, job creation, and emergency humanitarian assistance.
Forcella emphasised the agency’s broad range of initiatives in Burkina Faso, noting, “Our Agency in Burkina Faso is carrying out several initiatives in various sectors. These interventions focus on rural development, food security, the fight against malnutrition, job creation, and emergency humanitarian interventions, among others.”
She highlighted that AICS’s approach relies heavily on institutional partnerships, including collaborations between Burkinabe and Italian universities, as well as close coordination with Italian NGOs and local organisations to ensure effective project delivery.
“We are committed to continuing with Burkina Faso, listening to the needs of the population,” Forcella added, signalling a sustained commitment to responsive development.
Minister Traoré expressed genuine satisfaction with the results of Italian cooperation in Burkina Faso, describing the projects as “targeted, discreet… but satisfactory.”
He praised the tailored nature of the cooperation policy, which aligns closely with the specific needs of Burkinabe communities.
Underlining the government’s dedication to working hand-in-hand with Italian partners, Traoré said, “We are open to thinking together and acting together,” reaffirming a shared vision for greater synergy and impact on the ground.
As Burkina Faso and Italy strengthen their development ties, this renewed partnership promises to support sustainable growth and address pressing challenges facing vulnerable populations across the West African nation.
