The Ivorian Frequency Management Agency (AIGF) has launched a national awareness campaign highlighting best practices for using everyday devices that emit electromagnetic waves, amid growing concerns over prolonged exposure to such emissions.
Mobile phones, Wi-Fi modems, relay antennas, smart boxes, and wireless-connected computers and tablets are among the most common sources of electromagnetic waves, forming an integral part of modern life.
In response, the AIGF — the country’s regulatory body for radio spectrum management — is stepping up efforts to inform the public on safe and responsible usage.
The campaign emphasizes simple but effective measures to minimize unnecessary exposure. These include using speakerphones or hands-free kits for extended calls, reducing children’s screen time on connected devices, avoiding sleeping with phones under pillows, disconnecting or distancing inactive electronic items at night, and prioritizing wired connections where possible.
“This initiative is about empowering citizens to take advantage of technology without compromising their well-being,” explained Yacouba Coulibaly, Director General of the AIGF.
In line with international standards set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), the AIGF regularly monitors electromagnetic field levels across the country.
These routine checks ensure compliance with global safety thresholds and underscore the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health.
Operating under the Ministry of Digital Transition and Digitization, the AIGF carries out these campaigns annually, focusing on educating the population about the invisible risks of electromagnetic radiation.
Through its public outreach efforts, the agency seeks not only to mitigate potential health concerns but also to strengthen digital confidence among Ivorians in an increasingly connected society.
