Gabon has taken a significant step towards boosting its tourism sector with the signing of an agreement to develop a seaside resort at Cap Santa Clara, located in the Greater Libreville area.
On July 3, 2025, the National Agency for Urban Planning, Topographical Works and Cadastre (ANUTTC) formalised the deal with the Maritime Façade of the Champ Triomphal (FMCT), marking the beginning of what both institutions describe as a flagship tourism infrastructure project.
The agreement was signed by Emmanuel Ngoua Edane, Director General of FMCT, and Adelphe Gildas Mickoto, Director General of ANUTTC, during a ceremony that highlighted the government’s growing ambitions in the tourism and urban development sectors.
While feasibility studies for the Cap Santa Clara resort are expected to commence in the coming weeks, the agencies have not yet disclosed the specific area size or a definitive timeline for construction.
However, the vision behind the project was made clear.
“These projects are not just infrastructure, but the fruit of a strategic vision for a prosperous, sustainable future,” said the two leaders in a joint statement, stressing the broader developmental aspirations tied to Gabon’s emerging tourism agenda.
They emphasised that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to “organise, plan and secure urban development areas in order to offer citizens a quality environment.”
This new project follows a string of large-scale tourism ventures launched in Greater Libreville, as the government seeks to transform the region into a prime destination for both domestic and international visitors.
Cap Santa Clara, known for its natural beauty and proximity to the capital, is set to become a key focal point in this transformation.
The resort is expected to offer modern amenities and services that align with global hospitality standards, positioning it as a major asset in Gabon’s ongoing efforts to diversify its economy and create sustainable employment opportunities through tourism.
