Morocco has officially opened its first-ever National Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI), bringing together a wide cross-section of stakeholders to chart the country’s path toward an inclusive, ethical, and sovereign AI future.
Held under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI, the two-day event began on Tuesday in Rabat and is organized by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform.
Themed “An efficient and ethical AI strategy serving our society,” the conference seeks to outline a national vision for AI that aligns with Morocco’s societal needs and the strategic directions set by the monarchy.
The gathering draws an impressive array of participants from across government ministries and public institutions, along with private sector leaders, investment and sovereign wealth funds, Moroccan startups, civil society organizations, and members of the Moroccan diaspora.
International academics and experts are also in attendance, lending global perspectives to the national dialogue.
Structured around 13 key verticals, the conference explores areas where AI can drive transformative change for Morocco.
These include administrative reform and modernization, education and innovative pedagogies, sports, health and precision medicine, smart agriculture and fisheries, as well as Industry X.0.
Other focus areas span security and sovereignty, culture and creativity, media and democracy, international cooperation, governance and trust, ethics, innovation and startups, and infrastructure and investment.
The conference unfolds in two phases.
The first day features sector-focused technical sessions and showcases of cutting-edge Moroccan AI startups. The second day shifts to the political dimensions and explores opportunities for international cooperation in the development of AI.
The event will conclude with the presentation of official recommendations stemming from the discussions and panels.
Several memoranda of understanding will also be signed with both national and international organizations—marking a concrete step toward building an AI ecosystem grounded in ethics, innovation, and national sovereignty.
