As the 2024 summer transfer window unfolds, Senegalese footballers are dominating headlines across Europe.
From rising teenage sensations to seasoned internationals, the Lions of Teranga are in high demand, signaling a dynamic and eventful period for Senegalese football.
Among the most talked-about prospects is Amara Diouf, one of Senegal’s U17 African champions, who is reportedly on the verge of joining Turkish giants Fenerbahce, along with compatriot Abdelaziz Fall.
While the deal remains unofficial, sources close to the matter suggest both players have reached an agreement with the Istanbul-based club.
Speaking to Afrik.com, sports journalist Yaya Diop confirmed the momentum: “The transfer window is off to a good start for Senegalese players. Some moves have already been finalized, and others are expected to follow in the coming days.”
One name drawing significant attention is Demba Diop, following a standout season in Belgium. He has attracted interest from RC Strasbourg and Premier League side Chelsea, which has close ties with the French club.
“If he explodes in France, he could very well join Chelsea the following year. It’s an excellent transfer for him,” says Diop.
Meanwhile, Omar Sarr, a standout midfielder at Diambars FC and a Senegal U20 international, has signed a pre-contract with Belgian club Anderlecht, set to join officially in January when he turns 18.
The Strasbourg–Chelsea axis remains active. Habib Diarra, former captain of Strasbourg, has signed for newly promoted Sunderland, despite interest from several English and German clubs.
Mamadou Sarr, son of former Senegal international Pape Sarr, also made the move to Chelsea and is currently featuring in the Club World Cup, though a loan return to Strasbourg is reportedly on the table.
Among senior internationals, uncertainty surrounds Nicolas Jackson’s future at Chelsea. “According to some sources, Nicolas Jackson is being pushed out by Chelsea management,” notes Diop.
Juventus, Napoli, and FC Barcelona have reportedly shown interest, but Chelsea’s €60 million price tag remains a sticking point.
Sadio Mané, currently with Saudi club Al-Nassr, also faces an uncertain future. “He could be pushed out.
‘Nianthio’ would like to return to Europe, but that seems complicated because of his age and his colossal salary, estimated at 26 billion CFA francs per season,” Diop explains.
Lastly, El Hadji Malick Diouf, crowned best foreign player in the Czech league, is attracting major Premier League interest. Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest showed interest last winter, with Slavia Prague demanding €25 million.
That figure may have cooled talks temporarily, but interest from clubs like West Ham, Wolverhampton, and Brighton is reportedly growing.
“It’s going to be an exciting transfer window. Senegalese players will definitely have a major role to play this summer,” concludes Diop.
