Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, has embarked on an official visit to the country’s Eastern Region, marking a significant outreach to one of the nation’s culturally rich and strategically important areas.
Upon arriving in the region on the morning of June 28, 2025, the Prime Minister made a symbolic stop at the royal court of Untaanba, the King of Gulmu.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, this courtesy visit was a gesture of respect to the traditional authority, which continues to play a vital role in promoting social cohesion in the region.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Ouédraogo paid tribute to the King, praising his leadership in fostering peaceful coexistence among communities.
He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of President Ibrahim Traoré and the Burkinabe government to support the region’s efforts toward peace, security, and socio-economic development.
In a deeply symbolic moment, the Prime Minister also invoked the blessings of ancestral spirits for a peaceful and prosperous agricultural season—an act reflecting the importance of tradition and spiritual heritage in the daily lives of Burkinabe citizens.
The King of Gulmu expressed his gratitude for the Prime Minister’s visit, acknowledging the respect and attention shown to the traditional institutions.
He commended the government’s efforts in advancing peace and reiterated his commitment to unity and collaboration in the nation’s ongoing reconciliation process.
As part of his itinerary, Prime Minister Ouédraogo is scheduled to inaugurate the newly constructed Fada multipurpose hall and preside over the closing ceremony of the 7th edition of the Burkina Faso University Games (JUBF).
His visit underscores the government’s focus on cultural recognition, youth empowerment, and inclusive national development in a country navigating complex security and social challenges.
