Dr. Manal Awad, Egypt’s Minister of Local Development, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 National Achievement Award at the 10th edition of the Egypt Summit for the Best.
The accolade recognizes her exemplary leadership and strategic role in advancing local development policies, strengthening economic and social stability, and enhancing service efficiency across Egypt’s governorates.
The award was presented during a high-profile ceremony organised by Amwal Al-Ghad economic magazine and the Excellent Agency, both affiliated with United Media Services (UMS).
The event, held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, was attended by senior ministers, government officials, decision-makers, and prominent figures from the financial, business, civil society, and development sectors.
Dr. Awad received the honour from Dr. Hala El-Saeed, Advisor to the President for Economic Affairs, and Dina Abdel Fattah, Secretary-General of the Summit and Editor-in-Chief of Amwal El-Ghad.
In her acceptance speech, Dr. Awad remarked, “Egypt is witnessing significant developments in many areas, including infrastructure, particularly in the governorates. This is part of our efforts to develop new urban communities and smart cities. In parallel, we are working to develop our existing governorates to keep pace with these changes.”
She highlighted the government’s comprehensive efforts to prepare cities to face climate change and affirmed the impact of the presidential “Decent Life” initiative, calling it “the largest development project Egypt has ever seen—financially and geographically.”
“We no longer find a Decent Life village that is different from others,” she continued. “Villages are now equipped with all amenities—electricity, water, sewage systems, fiber optics—and centralized government services.
We are also developing educational and healthcare facilities, and expanding youth services.”
Dr. Awad confirmed that the first phase of the initiative is nearing completion, with the second phase set to begin.
“This is evidence of our continued development despite all the circumstances we are facing,” she concluded.
The summit also celebrated a range of distinguished figures and institutions.
These included the “50 Most Influential Women in Economic and Public Life” and the top 100 companies in Egypt, recognized for their resilience and innovation across various sectors.
Among those receiving the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award were several pioneering Egyptian women, including Ambassador Moushira Khattab, Dr. Hala El-Said, Ms. Yousriya Loza Sawiris, Dr. Ghada Wali, Ambassador Nabila Makram, Ms. Lobna Helal, Dr. Mona Zulficar, and designer Ms. Azza Fahmy—each acknowledged for their enduring contributions to national development and leadership excellence.
