Eswatini prime minister arrives in Angola for US-Africa business summit

Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has arrived in Luanda, Angola, to represent His Majesty King Mswati III and the Kingdom of Eswatini at the highly anticipated US-Africa Business Summit.
The summit, which officially opens on Monday, brings together African heads of state, senior United States government officials, and global business leaders for high-level discussions aimed at deepening economic cooperation between the continent and the United States.
Prime Minister Dlamini’s presence at the summit underscores Eswatini’s commitment to advancing its development goals through strategic international partnerships.
The forum is expected to focus on key sectors including infrastructure, energy, agriculture, healthcare, and digital innovation — all seen as vital engines for growth across Africa.
“The Prime Minister will engage with regional and global counterparts to advocate for stronger trade and investment ties that align with Eswatini’s development priorities,” said a government official familiar with the delegation’s agenda.
This year’s summit has drawn heightened regional interest due to growing momentum around the Lobito Corridor project — a major infrastructure initiative that proposes a railway network linking Angola’s Atlantic port to Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and potentially Tanzania.
The project is expected to significantly transform mineral transport and trade logistics in Southern and Central Africa.
The corridor is likely to feature prominently in the summit’s proceedings, as it represents a cornerstone of the US-backed Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment, aimed at countering China’s Belt and Road Initiative on the continent.
Prime Minister Dlamini’s participation in the summit is seen as a strategic move to position Eswatini as a forward-looking partner in regional integration and global trade realignment.
