DR Congo becomes official partner of AC Milan in landmark tourism and sports deal

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has officially become a premier partner of Italian football giant AC Milan.
The partnership was sealed on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Rome, during the closing of the Mattei Plan and Global Gateway summit.
The cooperation agreement was signed by AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni and the Congolese Minister of Tourism, Didier M’Pambia Musanga.
This groundbreaking collaboration designates the DRC as AC Milan’s official tourism destination and premier partner, marking a bold step in promoting the country’s appeal on the global stage.
Speaking at the signing, Paolo Scaroni expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, saying, “We discussed the possibility of the DRC being a sponsor of AC Milan; in particular, having the name behind our jersey to promote tourism in the Congo.”
Minister Didier M’Pambia Musanga highlighted the unique nature of the partnership, explaining, “We have signed a partnership with Italy, through AC Milan, to promote visibility and support in the development of the sports sector as well as social projects.
This makes it a sponsorship partnership unlike any other we have seen.”
Beyond tourism promotion, the partnership promises tangible social impact.
With the support of Fondazione Milan, efforts will focus on rehabilitating sports infrastructure and building a school in Boma in collaboration with Fondazione Mama Sofia.
Additionally, the launch of the first AC Milan Academy in the DRC is set to nurture young football talents, integrating the country into the AC Milan International Academy program.
Looking ahead, an institutional mission led by Paolo Scaroni is planned to visit the DRC to inaugurate these projects ahead of the next sports season, signaling a deepening of ties and a long-term commitment.
This alliance is poised to open new avenues for investment and business opportunities in the DRC, leveraging AC Milan’s global brand to spotlight the nation’s rich cultural and sporting potential.
