Ivory Coast’s RHDP pre-congress rallies unanimous support for president Ouattara’s re-election bid

The Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) concluded the first phase of its national pre-congress meetings with a strong endorsement of President Alassane Ouattara’s candidacy for the upcoming October 25 presidential election.
Speaking at the close of the meetings in Abidjan on Wednesday, the President of the Organising Committee, Minister Amédée Koffi Kouakou, described the campaign as a “complete success,” saying it demonstrated both the vitality of the party and a united front in support of the incumbent.
“The main objectives were to mobilize the activist base, confirm support for the candidacy of President Alassane Ouattara and define the strategic orientations for the next congress,” Kouakou told party members during the “RHDP Meetings” forum.
Held across 14 key regions between May 24 and 25, the first phase of the pre-congress campaign drew large turnouts from local leaders, regional officials, and grassroots supporters.
Among the regions visited were San Pedro, Nawa, Gbôklê, Hambol, Gôh, Loh-Djiboua, Kabadougou/Folon, Grands Ponts, La Mé, Cavally, Tonkpi, Guemon, Indénié-Djuablin, and Moronou.
“The public meetings were remarkably well attended, with venues often packed.
A notable feature was the rallying of 120 activists from opposition parties in Dabou,” noted Kouakou, highlighting growing momentum for the ruling party.
In each location, the pre-congress concluded with the unanimous adoption of motions in support of President Ouattara’s candidacy.
“These resolutions were enthusiastically received, with the assembly demonstrating its support through cheers,” he added.
The RHDP has scheduled two further phases of regional consultations.
The second will take place on May 31 and June 1, followed by the third on June 14 and 15, targeting the remaining 18 RHDP political regions and all 13 communes of Abidjan.
The party’s official congress to nominate its presidential candidate will be held in Abidjan on June 21 and 22.
