Sonelgaz CEO Mourad Adjal conducted a working visit to Atlanta, Georgia, from December 16 to 17, to solidify the company’s strategic partnership with General Electric (GE) Vernova.
The visit, held at GE Vernova’s headquarters, brought together key officials from both organizations to review the progress of joint energy projects and chart the path for future collaboration.
This initiative aligns with Sonelgaz’s broader efforts to diversify Algeria’s exports beyond hydrocarbons, reflecting directives from the country’s highest authorities.
During the meeting, Adjal underscored the critical importance of the partnership with GE Vernova, describing it as a “win-win collaboration.”
He expressed satisfaction with the significant strides made in executing various projects, attributing the progress to the resolution of issues raised in prior discussions at Sonelgaz headquarters.
GE Vernova representatives reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the partnership, commending Sonelgaz’s efficiency and problem-solving capabilities, which have facilitated advancements in previously stalled projects.
Discussions also touched on strategic priorities, including expanding GEAT’s (General Electric Algeria Turbines) factory to include a production line for transformers tailored to renewable energy initiatives under Algeria’s 15,000-megawatt program and for export markets.
Plans to manufacture gas turbines with capacities ranging from 50 to 100 megawatts were also explored.
Adjal emphasized the need to bolster training programs in network systems and to intensify efforts toward knowledge and expertise transfer.
He highlighted Sonelgaz’s ambitions to position GEAT products for export, targeting markets across the Maghreb and Africa.
This initiative aims to generate valuable opportunities for diversifying Algeria’s foreign currency sources.
Additionally, Adjal called for a broader commercial strategy that would enable both partners to expand their footprint in regional markets with Algerian-manufactured products.
He stressed the importance of GE Vernova adhering to contractual commitments to transfer technological expertise to Algeria.
This visit marks a pivotal step in reinforcing the long-standing partnership between Sonelgaz and General Electric Vernova, advancing Algeria’s energy manufacturing sector and its export potential.
