Morocco has reported a record-breaking 15.9 million tourist arrivals by the end of November 2024, marking a significant boost for the country’s tourism sector, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social Economy.
This remarkable growth has been driven in part by the large number of Moroccans living abroad (MREs), whose visits surged by 17% in the first eleven months of the year.
This increase, equivalent to an additional 1.1 million MRE arrivals, underscores the strong connection Moroccans abroad feel toward their homeland, particularly during holidays and religious celebrations, when their contributions to the local economy are most evident.
The total number of visitors to Morocco represents a 20% year-on-year rise, with 2.6 million more tourists compared to the same period in 2023.
The surge in tourism is attributed to a 23% increase in foreign visitors, adding 1.5 million to the country’s numbers.
Additionally, MRE arrivals grew by 17%, bringing 1.1 million more people to the kingdom.
November alone saw nearly 1.3 million tourists, with a staggering 31% growth compared to the same month last year.
This surge is a testament to the effectiveness of Morocco’s tourism strategy, as the country continues to strengthen its position as a leading global travel destination.
The figures bring Morocco closer to its goal of becoming one of the top 15 tourist destinations worldwide.
Officials have praised the country’s tourism roadmap for contributing to its success and maintaining strong momentum throughout the year.
As the sector continues to thrive, Morocco’s appeal to both international visitors and its diaspora remains strong, reinforcing the country’s economic and cultural ties with the world.
