Senegal's legislative elections praised for smooth organization
The African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have commended Senegal for the successful organization of its recent legislative elections, held in a peaceful and orderly manner.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Roland Kouassi Amoussouga Géro, a member of the joint AU-ECOWAS election observation mission, highlighted the high level of patriotism and the peaceful conduct displayed by all stakeholders and voters throughout the electoral process.

“The elections were conducted smoothly, in a largely peaceful atmosphere,” Géro stated, noting that citizens were able to exercise their voting rights without hindrance.

He also lauded the Senegalese authorities and electoral bodies for their efficiency, which ensured the elections proceeded without major disruptions.

The AU-ECOWAS mission deployed 140 observers across Senegal’s 14 regions. Organized into 43 teams, these observers closely monitored the election process to ensure its fairness and transparency.

In addition to AU and ECOWAS observers, representatives from the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) were also on the ground.

Jules Njawe, head of the CEMAC election observation team, echoed the sentiments of his counterparts, praising the calm and disciplined manner in which the elections were conducted.

“Voting operations took place in an atmosphere of calm, serenity, and order,” Njawe said in a statement to the press.

“Voters turned out to fulfill their civic duty with discipline and in good spirits.”

The praise from international observers underscores Senegal’s longstanding reputation as a model of democratic stability in the region.

The peaceful and efficient conduct of the legislative elections reinforces the country’s commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring the active participation of its citizens in the political process.
