Hosted at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport’s headquarters in Alexandria on 13 November, the session was chaired by the State of Palestine.
During the meetings, Arab transport ministers addressed 26 agenda items focused on various transportation modes, including land, air, and maritime sectors.
Key topics included support for the Palestinian economy, the strategic development of the transportation sector in Jerusalem, regulations for passenger and freight transport across Arab countries, and traffic safety measures.
Discussions also extended to intelligent transport systems, harmonization of truck dimension and weight standards, and the feasibility of establishing an Arab maritime safety agency.
Additional matters touched on applying artificial intelligence in logistics, establishing a regional ship management center in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, revising tax exemption agreements on Arab air transport activities and equipment, and expanding the membership of the Arab Aviation Organization Council.
His Excellency the Ambassador also attended the 29th regular session of the General Assembly of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport at the ministerial level, which took place in Alexandria.
Representing the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, which previously chaired the Assembly for a year, he formally handed over the presidency to Yemen’s Minister of Transport.
In his opening remarks at the General Assembly session, the Ambassador praised the Academy’s role as a beacon of knowledge and a driving force for technological and research innovation.
He highlighted its vital technical expertise, essential for crafting strategies and implementing sustainable development policies.
The Ambassador further reflected on the severe humanitarian crisis resulting from ongoing conflict in occupied Palestine, which has extended into Lebanon through escalating hostilities by the Israeli forces.
Emphasizing Mauritania’s solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese people, he reiterated calls for an immediate ceasefire to end the aggression.
The Ambassador was joined at the meetings by the embassy’s cultural attaché, Counselor Mukhtar Al-Jilani.
