Burkina Faso emerged as the standout nation at the 2nd African National Olympic Committees (ACNOA) Games in taekwondo, held on Tuesday, October 14, at the Martial Arts Hall of the National Olympic and Sports Committee of Burkina Faso (CNOSB).
The host nation claimed the top spot ahead of Niger, securing the title of best team of the competition.
Burkina Faso’s athletes displayed remarkable dominance across multiple weight categories, concluding the event with an impressive medal haul: five golds, one silver, and one bronze.
This performance solidified the country’s position as the leading team of the championship.
Among the men, Kaboré Trésor (-68kg), Traoré Mohamed Lamine (-80kg), and Bama Armel Fleury (+87kg) clinched gold, while Doumbia Lassina (-58kg) secured silver.
On the women’s side, Doumbia Mariam (-57kg) and Zabsonré Chawquia (-68kg) captured gold medals, complemented by Bama Ida Kevine (-49kg) who added bronze to Burkina Faso’s tally.
Speaking about the triumph, team captain Idah Kevin Bama highlighted the dedication behind the results: “It’s thanks to hard training and perseverance, and it paid off. We train morning and evening.
It was tough, but we held on, and here are the results.”
William Ouédraogo, president of the Burkina Faso Taekwondo Federation, expressed pride in the athletes’ achievements, noting the limited preparation time they had before the games.
“Despite the short period of preparation, the athletes demonstrated an excellent level, as also noted by the president of the African Taekwondo Union. It is a great source of satisfaction for us,” he said.
The spotlight now shifts to the continental championship, where leading athletes Faysal Sawadogo, Idah Bama, and Ibrahim Maïga will aim to secure Burkina Faso’s first taekwondo medal at that level.
Idé Issaka, president of both the Niger National Olympic Committee and the African Taekwondo Union, who attended the event in Ouagadougou, praised the high level of competition.
“I witnessed outstanding matches that honor our region and Africa.
The athletes are truly at a high standard, and I am confident that the next generation is ready,” he remarked.
The results at the 2nd ACNOA Games signal a bright future for Burkina Faso’s taekwondo, underscoring the country’s growing strength and potential in the sport on the continental stage.
