In a significant move to combat rising crime in the district of Godomey, located in the Atlantique department, police authorities conducted a large-scale security operation from October 6 to 12, 2025.
The operation, aimed at curbing nighttime criminal activities and dismantling local crime networks, led to the arrest of 31 individuals and the disruption of several criminal hubs.
The initiative, described by the Godomey police station as a “strike” operation, was orchestrated under the leadership of the district’s commissioner.
The police targeted known criminal hideouts, often referred to as “ghettos,” which have long been hotspots for illicit activities.
During the operation, police made 15 arrests directly within the targeted areas, while additional suspects were apprehended through search warrants.
The operation also led to the destruction of five criminal hotspots, marking a significant blow to the local underworld.
Authorities reported substantial findings during their searches, including a large quantity of narcotics and a range of stolen items.
Among the recovered stolen goods were truck batteries, SONEB water meters, motorcycles, televisions, and mobile phones.
The police also seized dismantled motorcycles, speakers, vehicle wheels, and several other items that had been taken in thefts. In addition, eight motorcycles were immobilized for lacking proper documentation, in line with the Highway Code.
The operation also revealed a disturbing network of drug trafficking.
Police seized various substances, including Indian hemp and psychotropic tablets, indicating the presence of a well-established drug distribution operation in the area.
The authorities have vowed to intensify their efforts to dismantle these illegal networks and reduce the rampant drug trade in Godomey.
In an unusual twist, the operation also uncovered a case of fraud involving a cowherd and a self-styled marabout. The cowherd allegedly sold 58 oxen belonging to his employer for 14 million CFA francs, only to be deceived by the false promise of a massive financial windfall.
The marabout, who claimed he could increase the cowherd’s money to 800 million CFA francs, took the funds. Both individuals were arrested and will face legal action.
This comprehensive operation highlights the Godomey police station’s ongoing commitment to improving public security. By targeting organized crime, drug trafficking, and fraudulent activities, authorities aim to restore peace and stability to the residents of Godomey and the larger Abomey-Calavi municipality.
The results of the operation demonstrate a proactive approach to addressing the security concerns that have plagued this area.
