The ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) launched its electoral campaign with an outpouring of enthusiasm and loyalty for President Paul Biya, transforming the capital into a sea of party colours, music and chants as thousands rallied behind the long-serving leader.
Crowds of men, women, young people and children filled the streets and squares of Yaoundé, creating heavy traffic and a carnival-like atmosphere. At the heart of the celebrations, Town Hall Square became the epicentre of a massive political gathering, vibrating to the rhythm of songs and militant chants that underscored the party’s determination to secure another term for its leader.
The official opening of the campaign was described as both a festive and solemn occasion, dedicated to honouring “our national president, the candidate of the CPDM, His Excellency Paul Biya.” A series of speeches reflected the “deep attachment of the Cameroonian people to their leader,” as party officials and supporters hailed his decades of leadership and vision for the nation.
With the campaign now formally underway, CPDM leaders called on members and supporters to shift from celebration to action. “There is no longer time for distraction or internal quarrels,” one speaker declared, urging activists to “strengthen teams on the ground” and “build proximity with voters.”
The party’s message centres on presenting President Biya as a symbol of continuity and stability while highlighting his record and renewed ambitions for Cameroon. “We have a duty: to present Paul Biya in a new light, to recall his vision, his achievements, and above all, his new ambitions for Cameroon,” a party representative said.
Biya, who has been in power since 1982, is seeking another seven-year term, with the CPDM portraying the next mandate as “a seven-year term of great hope” that will bring progress “in all areas of national life.”
Supporters were urged to rally around the party’s vision and convince voters that Biya remains the only candidate capable of ensuring peace and prosperity. “Today, we must convince, speak to the people, present them with the bulletin of hope, of greatness, of prosperity, the only one that guarantees a united, strong and stable Cameroon,” one official told the cheering crowd.
The rally concluded with a powerful message of unity and determination. “Together, let us march behind President Paul Biya. Together, let us ensure victory,” party leaders declared, as chants of support echoed through the streets of Yaoundé.
