As Ivory Coast prepares for its October 2025 presidential election, the prefect of Agnibilékrou, Kouadio Kouakou Arnaud Mathieu, has urged citizens to uphold social cohesion and preserve a peaceful environment.
His appeal came during the “In the Name of Peace” program, broadcast on Wednesday, September 24, by Radio Côte d’Ivoire at the local cultural center.
Addressing the population, Mr. Kouadio called on all socio-professional groups to actively maintain the department’s long-standing climate of peace.
He highlighted the key role of community leaders, including the president of the federation of women’s associations, youth representatives, and village chiefs, in spreading messages of tolerance and dialogue.
“The lessons of Côte d’Ivoire’s recent history must guide us to guarantee peace and security for the population, for the well-being of all,” the prefect said, stressing that collective commitment is crucial to prevent tensions during the electoral process.
He also appealed to political actors, urging them to respect fair play and act with reason throughout the campaign period.
“Maintaining calm and civility is critical to ensuring a credible and peaceful election,” he added.
This intervention is part of a nationwide awareness campaign led by Radio Ivory coast, which has visited multiple localities to reinforce social cohesion and tolerance in the lead-up to the vote. Agnibilékrou marked the 24th stop on this program, designed to encourage dialogue and mutual understanding among citizens just one month before polling day.
Local observers welcomed the prefect’s message, noting that proactive engagement with community leaders can help prevent conflicts and strengthen unity during politically sensitive periods.
With electoral tensions often rising in the weeks before a vote, initiatives such as “In the Name of Peace” are increasingly viewed as essential to promoting civic responsibility and ensuring that democratic processes proceed without violence.
