
The discussions took place at the headquarters of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) on Tuesday, September 23, with key representatives from both countries in attendance.
General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, received General Moussa Salaou Barmou, Chief of Staff of the Nigerien Armed Forces, who is on an official visit to Morocco from September 21 to 27.
The meeting brought together the heads of both general staffs to review and enhance strategic military ties.
According to a statement from the FAR General Staff, the talks highlighted “the exceptional quality of military relations between Rabat and Niamey, based on strong fraternal ties and cooperation marked by mutual respect.” Both officials underscored a constructive and enduring dynamic defined by trust and mutual esteem.
The discussions focused on several key areas of collaboration, including training, operational readiness, military health, and the exchange of visits and expertise. These sectors are considered strategic by both parties and aim to strengthen interoperability while maintaining continuous military dialogue.
General Berrid welcomed his Nigerien counterpart, stressing the significance of a bilateral relationship rooted in competence and continuity. He described it as a major lever for consolidating security partnerships across the Sahel-Saharan region.
The visit reflects the commitment of both nations to inject fresh momentum into their military cooperation at a time when the Sahel faces growing security challenges. By reinforcing collaboration and strategic alignment, Morocco and Niger aim to enhance regional stability and ensure sustained operational readiness against emerging threats.
The meetings also demonstrate the broader ambition of both countries to foster a resilient security framework, underpinned by regular dialogue and shared expertise, reinforcing their role as key partners in Sahelian defence and security initiatives.
