Libya’s National High Electoral Commission has concluded a two-day youth empowerment forum in Tripoli aimed at strengthening young people’s involvement in the country’s forthcoming elections and deepening their role in shaping its democratic future.
The event, held at the Commission’s media centre and supported by the Libya Election Support Project, brought together dozens of young participants from across the country. Its main goal was to boost electoral awareness among young people and equip them with practical tools to mobilise their peers ahead of the polls.
Over the course of the forum, participants took part in training sessions focused on voter mobilisation strategies and engaged in interactive workshops designed to build leadership and outreach skills. Teams also competed by presenting innovative action plans targeting first-time voters and the broader youth electorate.
One of the highlights of the event was a dialogue session with the Commission’s Outreach and Communication Department. During the session, participants shared their proposals for improving youth engagement and discussed strategies to increase political participation among young Libyans.
The forum concluded with the awarding of certificates to participants, recognising their contributions and commitment to strengthening democratic participation. Organisers stressed that the success of Libya’s transition depends heavily on translating these ideas into tangible actions that can drive voter turnout among younger generations.
“The central role of youth in strengthening the Libyan democratic process” was underscored throughout the event, with officials emphasising that active youth participation is essential to ensuring credible, inclusive, and stable elections.
With a significant portion of Libya’s population under the age of 30, increasing youth engagement is seen as a vital step in shaping the country’s political landscape and supporting its ongoing efforts toward national stability and democratic governance.
