A tragic accident on Egypt’s Hurghada–Ras Ghareb Road has claimed the lives of a father and his son, with another family member seriously injured.
The collision occurred on Tuesday evening at kilometre 70 heading towards Ras Ghareb, involving a double-cabin pickup truck and a transport vehicle. Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of the crash.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased were Mahmoud Tamim Hussein, 62, and his son Ahmed Mahmoud Tamim, 35, both residents of Minya Governorate. A third family member, Khaled Mahmoud Tamim, 27, sustained a suspected fracture in his right leg along with bruises to his vertebrae. He was immediately transferred to Hurghada General Hospital for medical treatment.
“The two deceased were pronounced dead at the scene,” a local emergency official said. “The injured has been stabilised and is under observation.”
The Ministry of Interior and traffic authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the collision. Initial reports suggest that speed and road conditions may have been contributing factors, though formal conclusions are pending.
Incidents on the Hurghada–Ras Ghareb corridor are a recurring concern, with authorities citing a combination of heavy vehicle traffic and challenging road conditions as risk factors. Local officials have repeatedly urged drivers to exercise caution, particularly in high-traffic areas connecting Red Sea tourist towns with inland routes.
This latest accident underscores ongoing road safety challenges in Egypt, as authorities continue to call for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and awareness campaigns to reduce fatalities.
