Rapper and musician Smarty, one of Burkina Faso’s most celebrated artists, delivered an inspiring message to young participants of the Faso Mêbo Holiday Camp during its second phase in Ouagadougou on Saturday, 13 September 2025.
The double Kundé d’or winner (2007 and 2023) praised the initiative, which is designed to train, educate and prepare young campers to become future leaders who will contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.
Speaking in his role as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in Burkina Faso, Smarty urged the children to embrace discipline, responsibility and love for their country.
“Every child must be responsible now because you are the adults of tomorrow. You are the Burkina of tomorrow,” he told the campers.
He encouraged participants to believe in their dreams and strive for excellence, while also stressing the importance of humility and patriotism. “I believe in my country, I am proud to be Burkinabè, I am proud of what the country has given me, and I will give it back until I die,” he said.
The artist, who has earned recognition both nationally and internationally, called on the young attendees to act as ambassadors of the camp, sharing the lessons they had learned in order to help transform Burkinabè society.
His appearance at the holiday camp was not only a motivational session but also a demonstration of solidarity. To underline his message about humility and discipline, Smarty joined the campers in their daily routines, queuing at the hand-washing station before sharing the traditional “camper’s soup.”
The Faso Mêbo Holiday Camp continues to attract prominent national figures who encourage young people to embody integrity, responsibility and excellence. For many of the campers, Smarty’s words and actions reinforced the belief that the values learned at the camp could inspire lasting change in Burkina Faso’s future.
